This e-presentation discusses the monitoring of fundamental rights within the context of irregular migration into the EU and its management. The legislative framework, including Regulation (EU) 2019/1896 and various international human rights instruments, such as the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights and the UN Refugee Convention, is outlined Practical monitoring activities under Frontex Joint Operations are explained, including on-the-spot visits, issuing recommendations and delivering training, all aimed at ensuring fundamental rights compliance without disrupting operations. Achievements underscoring the development of accountability and due diligence models to strengthen fundamental rights protection are highlighted. Finally, challenges such as inconsistent practices across host countries, underreporting of incidents and the critical role of host country decisions are highlighted.
