This presentation details the development of European asylum law focusing on the multiple directives and regulations as well as the Charter of Fundamental Rights. The effectiveness of many directives, regulations and the Charter are discussed with reference to how they altered the status of the individual seeking asylum. The evolution of the European asylum acquis is divided into two phases. In the first phase, European legal measures such as the Reception Directive, the Procedures Directive and the Charter of Fundamental Rights are examined in detail. The recast Dublin Regulation, the recast Eurodac and the recast Qualification Directive are addressed and reviewed in the concluding reference to the second phase of the development of European asylum legislation.
The Role of Intra-EU Solidarity Tools in the Reformed CEAS

The presentation examines the impact of intra-EU solidarity measures being developed and applied among Member States within the reformed European asylum system. These tools are used to increase the potential for solidarity and increased harmonisation in asylum issues and they are discussed in reference to whether they contribute to a superior protection regime in the EU. The European Asylum Support Office (EASO) and joint processing are dealt with in detail, along with factual asylum statistics and influential European documents that have taken a role in guiding EU intra-solidarity.
